Dr. Bernhard Riegel earned his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Stuttgart, followed by research positions at the Max Planck Institute and the University of Texas. His research concentrated on electrochemical storage technologies at the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research. Since joining HOPPECKE Batterien GmbH & Co. KG in 2001, he has served as Director of Research and Development for various electrochemical storage systems. In 2007, he founded HOPPECKE Advanced Battery Technology, spearheading the introduction of lithium-ion technology into the industrial market.
