Albert Engels

Senior Process Manager, City of Rotterdam

Albert Engels began his career as a civil engineer in the late 1980s, mastering traditional drawing boards before embracing the digital transformation brought by the PC in the 1990s. Over nearly two decades, he worked in multidisciplinary teams within private companies, collaborating with internationally renowned architects and advancing from structural project engineer to project manager and director at DHV consultancy.

In 2008, Engels transitioned to the public sector, joining the City of Rotterdam. His unique experience in both private and public domains enables him to bridge the gap between these sectors, focusing on organizing public-private partnerships and collaborations on national and international scales. He recognizes the complexity of working across cultures, sectors, and knowledge institutes.

Currently, Engels serves as a senior process manager and liaison officer for Rotterdam, coordinating major European projects such as RUGGEDISED and leading networks like OASC. He believes true collaboration is an art, innovation is driven by societal factors, and international engagement, though challenging, is invaluable
