I am currently living in Kenya and developing new methods on how to better represent biological diversity numerically and in our economy. I am also an adjunct professor at the J.Craig Venter Institute and a visiting scholar at Princeton University. Previously I co-founded Variant Bio to improve global health by studying the genes of people who are outliers for medically relevant traits and genetic architecture. I started Variant Bio because I believe that human genetics has the power to transform drug discovery and development. At Variant I pioneered the concept of benefit sharing ensuring reciprocity between biotechnology research and participating communities. I completed my PhD. in molecular biology at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. After my PhD I joined the New York Genome Center as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. There, I laid the foundation for my first company, Gencove, that introduced low-pass sequencing, together with cloud-based analysis and imputation software, as an alternative to genotyping arrays.
