Teppo Rantanen is the Executive Director of Economic Policy, Competitiveness and Innovation at the City of Tampere, where he shapes strategic economic policy across key industries such as semiconductors, defense, energy, and the experience economy. He is recognized for leading Tampere’s transformation through international collaboration and advancing a human-centric citiverse.
Rantanen’s leadership in smart city development is marked by his commitment to leveraging digital twins, XR technologies, data, AI, and connectivity. These innovations create a seamless digital layer over Tampere’s physical environment, enhancing the city’s appeal for both residents and businesses. He also co-chairs the UN Virtual Worlds Initiative on the Citiverse.
Previously, Rantanen served as CEO of Deloitte Finland from 2002 to 2014 and was a member of Deloitte’s Global Technology, Media and Telecommunications Leadership Team in London. He currently sits on the board of Business Finland, supporting Finnish companies’ global growth and fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem.
